Beautifully purposeful, the KTM 790 Dukeās engine is compact and powerful. The forged crankshaft has the pins offset by 75° with a 435° firing order to help mimic the sound and character of KTMās larger V-Twins. The pressure-cast cases are a horizontal split design with the cylinders built into the top case.
The bike has no problem keeping up with speedy SoCal traffic, and when the time comes to pass slower-moving drivers, the Duke 390 has a stash of available power that enables it to easily get around those troublesome four-wheelers. And even though its lone piston is spinning furiously at 80 mph, the bike remains remarkably smooth.ā.
It's not easy, but we resist the urge to trail ride KTM's 890 Adventure R long enough to show that at its heart, it's a pure and insanely versatile adventure
Slow, technical trails arenāt where the 390 ADV shines, to be honest. Yes, it has the balance, but its engineās character makes such proceedings a bit challenging. Show it a faster, hard-packed trail though, and the motorcycle comes into its own. Its well-damped suspension flattens all but the deepest of potholes.
